So the time is almost upon us, the Grasshopper is green with envy (aren’t grasshoppers green anyway?), the car has survived a severe scrut and the (new) driver says it all good to go!

Am I good to go, you bet! The anticipation is high but there are really no great expectations. Only a quiet confidence.

I’ve done it before, quickly. He’s done it before, perhaps more quickly? The unknown is the vehicle, it’s first competition outing in quite some time and at a pace it will, I guarantee, have not been subjected too.
G eluded to some banter about road position and while it all ended in good humour, I can’t help but feel the driver was dudded somewhat. Like G said, you have to drive the same road, no matter where you start and I have the feeling that the ego has been bruised and there is a little to prove. Tomorrow will reveal all and the next update will let you in on the result. Tired’s rally results service will be running hot for G’s benefit alone. Although, why should I bother, the slacker, off on some secret mission with Mrs. G. I don’t know, you’d think they’d only been married 7 months (almost eight)!
Til’ the morrow when the gladiators of the forest do battle. Look out you Wombat you, it’s not a pink Z this time, just some ugly little Toyota called “scoop”, but driven with just as much gusto. And your “generally rough to finish” doesn’t scare us anymore! Look out, Sik is in your house…….

Well things are certainly looking up.

An Australia on the podium in WRC and another takes the win in the 250 GP in Turkey. And now another champion from Australia is set to take on the best that there is on offer…….

Well the Great One is making a competitive return to to VRC rallying anyway : )

Will I be there? Will I be cheering him on and lending my moral support? Of course not! I have better things to do with my time. Will be a shame not to be there and share the excitement, but as with all things at this point in time, I am busy doing something else.

The driver has assured TGM that the car is as ready as possible and I think there are quiet hopes for a fair result. Of course there was some banter thrown back and forward regarding the starting position but in the end it all comes back to the fact that you still have to drive the road. I am sure that they will do well and I really truly do wish them both the best of luck.

Green Eyed Grasshopper

Ok so I think I really am a better driver than a co-driver!

But I think we all knew this already. But I really didn’t feel that I did a fair job even being handicapped as I was. Handicapped by my inability to add or subtract or read a map or generally do any of the tasks that a co-driver would normally do!

The other half was off with some other guy but in the end it was never to be with the little beastie breaking down and us passing them at the end of the stage (“fancy meeting you here”) I never thought anything would come of it : ) But I am assured that the driver is over his tantrum and will be back for The Begonia. Shame to miss it myself but I don’t think I am likely to be invited back in any great hurry LOL!

Thank you to Bernard for the ride and for putting up with my lame efforts, even with that we posted a fair finish of 6th outright. Good luck to him and the car in future events.

G

Well wasn’t that good fun! At least it was while it lasted. The ugly little Corolla, known as scoop, has some potential, the driver definitely has potential and the co-driver? Well, lets just say he’s coming back for a second go.
And what of the former driver now turned nav? Well I think he surprised himself and he kept his lunch down (just) and he proved to himself that he really does want to be a driver and not a co-driver! But I think if the opportunity arises again and the planets are aligned, he’ll be back in the passengers seat for the occasional trip with a competent driver or two.

Now all we gotta do is win that lotto or find a beneficiary like Terry has and we’ll be back into it, together.
I’m dreaming of a white Mazda…………….

The Grand Master Juha sends you his blessing. He cannot confess to holding your fears my son (although he possibly may like to!) for then you would know that he too may have the weakness of stomach and self belief that befells mere mortal men on their first mission, in serious competition, in the seat of knowledge.
Yes, I say serious competition, for lets face it, those other bozo’s did not have the skill, the speed or the attitude of this driver. And you know he speaks from experience, for he has experienced “serious” competition from the seat of knowledge. Ah yes…………… NO. 9
Goat is good but the boots don’t fit, so hold onto them and make the sacrifice on ebay………much more profitable!

There is no fear in my mind as I head out on my mission, for there is no dust and I have no mumbo jumbo to decifer. Only the stange shapes and those words ringing in my ears………..Not so robot like, Freddie!

And in the words of one we all aspire to be like…………..No Stress……….

My Lord,

Please hear my words and allow some sort of sanity to return to my troubled mind. I find that I am heading all in a rush towards one of the most harrowing experiences that any good and proper rally driver can experience. Yes Mighty One, I also am to be a co-driver. I ask for the strength to cope and also the clarity of mind to know that no matter how hard I push the floor, I will never be able to halt the over-jealous driving of Mr She’ll be Right, Bernie.

I ask that you also settle my tummy and prevent the stress of not holding the wheel which in turn goes on to make me feel queasy. I beg that you give me the ability to make sense of all the mumbo jumbo (map) and all those funny shapes (route chart). But your biggest miracle would be the gift of adding and subtracting. I pray most strongly for all these blessings and praise you with this offering of a goat and these driving boots : )

Yours in fear

G
