What is this “cricket” that you speak of Great One? And what a poor sport when all that is offered as a prize is ash?!
Michael Park has indeed passed on as a result of the accident. And it was at this point when I first heard the news that we all asked the question, how does this make Marko Martin feel?
Mrs G even went on to ask if there is the possibility of criminal charges being laid (quickly put to rest)! I just hope that Marko was doing all the right things and didn’t suffer a momentary lapse in concentration or take a silly risk. I could only imagine the guilt that anyone in this position would feel regardless of what happened. Surely giving it all away would seem like the only option when it first happens, but others have gone on to compete and achieve great things in similar circumstances.
And yes while we are speaking of great things to come………..
The re-birth of The Great One as Co-driver is at hand! I can not imagine what one brings as a gift to such a thing : ) But I assume that all will go well and that if I could offer some advice I would only say, relax and know that yes you can do it as good as anyone else. But on the same hand I would like to leave you with the words of Mr Smooth – Ed Ordynski
“Not so robot-like Freddy”
And also the words from that world renown event…….
“Generally rough to finish”
We should let the buggers bask in the glory of having won them back after how many years? Because they’ll be coming back in 2007 and won’t I be letting them know all about it then, Hey, Hey? yeah, yeah.
But on to things more serious, while I was on the plane somewhere over the Indian ocean (or this mighty land of ours not sure exactly where), a fellow rallyist passed away. I speak of Michael Park, co-driver to Marko Martin in the WRC. No, we didn’t know him personally, but a tragedy like this brings home to you, that even at the upper reaches of your chosen sport, everyone is vulnerable. Fortunately it is not to often that someone dies in rallying, but we should be ever vigilant with the safety aspects of motor sport. RIP M. Park.
Ah yes the mighty BDA, father of all twin cams. What a glorious sounding engine. Imagine the Grasshopper with his foot on that loud pedal! It brings a smile to me lips as I write this. For he knows only one way……Go Hard or don’t come at all.
But alas they were not in plentiful abundance at any place I attended in it’s homeland so, no worshipping was done and of course, lotto remains elusive……….
You’ll be pleased to know the Corolla has fired it’s first shot in anger and the Spring 200 awaits the fat bastards (well one fat bastard!) in the Zero. Will Mick still have? will Mick still want to do it, will Neil want Mick to do? We await the next exciting installment……..
Yes I know what you are all thinking. Some more dancing and singing wearing a dress. But no. I am talking once more about the sound of a BDA Cosworth engine (yes! Going on would be a better turn of phrase). Why go on about this again? Well two things really, first an article in the ARN on “How to build” such a wonderful thing and secondly The Great One has just returned from the birth place of this Most holy of items!!
Did he bring one back? Did he worship with appropriate respect? Did he win Lotto?!
We shall see………..
I am not impressed with the ARC mob.
Well of course I am impressed with the speed and the pace shown plus the skill that they have. But it was right down the back where I got my biggest smile. I can only wonder with envy what it was like to be in the forest with a whole field of hypo BDA Escorts getting The Stick!
All there was in the field on the weekend was one lonely Mk 1 BDA and driven by a pussy at that! But regardless, it was the sweetest and most exciting thing I heard/saw all weekend (Mrs G aside ; ) I have always said that I would only buy another Zed if I won lotto or came into some money, but after seeing that thing again on the weekend, I would have to say that there will be A Mk 2 BDA snuggling up next to it : )
Great One?
